Boy in a dress

Hi
My 8 year boy old wants to wear a Witch Halloween dress to tick or treat around the village. I don't have a problem with this - He just likes 'pretty' things - not just dresses but pink and sparkles etc.. However I am worried that his friends will tease him and talk behind his back. I also know that some of his friends parents are very 'traditional' I wouldn't put it past them to say nasty things also.

Now I know many of you might say - if they tease they aren't real friends, or I should teach him to stand up for his own beliefs and not be a sheep... but at the end of the day we live in a small village with a small school and there are not many boys in his class. He already struggles as bit with the complexities of friendship. (in fact I partly think the dress thing is about standing out and getting attention from his peers) I don't want him to make it any harder for himself.

I thought about suggesting he gets the dress and wears it at home? What do you think?

thanks!

Cant he get it but turn it into a wizard ?? Wouldnt bother me but kids can be shits at that age.........id sit him down and explain he can have it. But sticking a grey beard on will save a whole lot of grief.

You could explain that male witches are called warlocks (i think!) so he could go as one of those. I dont really think there is much of a costume difference, maybe not the pointy hat? Or have you tried taking him to the shops and showing him other options in the flesh? Something else might take his fancy when he sees it.
But if he still wants to be a witch then I'd support him. We can't protect our wee ones from everything, we all have to learn hard lessons. I look back and cringe at some of the things i did/wore as a kid! You never know, there might not be any comments!
