Would you let them choose?

So my son had a school disco last night and I had a nice shirt and jeans for him to wear but when he went to put his shoes on he said he wanted to wear his football boots. Now these are AstroTurf boots so no studs or anything so suitable for the hall floor etc but they are worn out and look dreadful with a smart outfit. My question is, would you have let him wear them or would you have insisted on the shoes that go with the outfit?

it depends what the shoes are. if they are fancy black suit shoes, then possibly consider letting him wear them. howver, if they are something like black trainers, then insist
