My teenage son is probably going to have to move in with his grandparents (permanently) who live in another London borough (50 miles away from us). Could anyone please advise me on what action I should take as regards finding a new school for him in grandparents' borough. I'm presuming we would need to phone the admissions department at the local council. Is there any particular information/documents they will need to see? How long will it take to find him a new school? Can he be without a school to go to? Legally, I imagine that is an impossibility? Do we need to relinquish his current school place beforehand?

you need to phone the council, as you said. once you have a school place sorted for him (or its pending) then let your current school know. i would say that he is leaving after the half term. (i really hope this is right) all the best
