At what age does the collective wisdom of MN think that girls should start using tampons?

When they ask.

ItsJustTheOneSwanActually · 19/09/2018 19:30

I used them right from the start. Why wouldn't you?

DollyWilde · 19/09/2018 19:32

From period 1, to be honest. My mum found it difficult as she always was of the ‘theyre for married ladies’ persuasion, but I was a county swimmer training 3x a week and it was a no brainer for me.

There is no “should”. Some women never use tampons at all. If the girl wants to try them, get them some.

donajimena · 19/09/2018 19:34

I used them from my first period. I hated the sensation of blood loss with towels. It took a good few attempts to get it right!

Littlefish · 19/09/2018 19:36

I offered them to dd from her first period (aged nearly 13). She started using them on her 4th period, about 8 months later.

dementedpixie · 19/09/2018 19:37

When they want to. Dd has used them on holiday from age 13 I think. She prefers pads

LucyInTheParkWithDragons · 19/09/2018 19:38

Talk to her about them before she starts, and offer them as soon as she wants them.

"I used them right from the start. Why wouldn't you?"

Lots of young girls find them difficult.

EdWinchester · 19/09/2018 19:42

Agree, from the start.

(But then my friend and I had tried them several times before we started - we were 14 and desperate!)

dementedpixie · 19/09/2018 19:45

It's not a 'Should' as not everyone would want to use them. The offer of them can be made from the start though

Aria2015 · 19/09/2018 19:45

Is used them from the start so probably around 12-13. My mum told me they were the best thing to use so I took her advice. She wouldn't have pushed it if I hadn't have wanted to use them though.

I’ve bought my daughter a starter kit, there’s lots of different products ( pads and tampons ) and a leaflet with lots of really helpful info. We sat down and went through everything so she knows what everything is, then it’s her choice.
