One year old - diarrhoea

Hi all,

My 14 month old has a very sore, red bum as a result of diarrhoea.

He's not unwell, he's fine in himself.

I'm trying to change him as an when required which is very often, but cleaning him he screams in pain.

How can I relieve the pain and also, harden his stools?

I don't have any suggestions for solving the diarrhoea part but I swear by the yellow metanium cream for sore bums. My wee one is really bad for nappy rash particularly when teething and no matter how quickly her bum is changed she ends up with bright red spots. No other cream touches it but the yellow metanium is brilliant, you should start seeing a wee difference by the next nappy change.

Yellow metanium here aswell, stains like crazy but it's magic! When ds used to have diarrhoea I would scrap the baby wipes and use plain water so nothing was irritating him

Thank you, i feel so bad for him as there's nothing I can do other than try to put cream on but it hurts him :(

Poor boy, hopefully our local Asda will sell it!

One of mine was very prone to severe nappy rash. We ditched wipes forever. Use the clean part of the nappy to wipe off the worst of it, then cotton wool and water. Once the skin is better, I found using cotton wool and Baby lotion kept the skin in better condition.

My ds had a 2 week gastro virus and his poor bum was agony as a result and bleeding even on the rash. The doctor said to not stop using baby wipes as they neutralise the acid in the poop even though instinct says water is kinder. I definately agree with metanium as well, it's the best nappy rash cream I have used and cleared ds up very quickly.
