When to take DC to the dentist?

Hi

DD is nearly 9 months and has got her first tooth coming through.

This got me thinking as to when you take your children to the dentist for the first time. Do you wait until all their teeth have come through, do you go when their a certain age?

When did you take yours?

I took my sons from when they were babies, if I had an appointment then they came along too and had a ride on the chair even if they didn't have their teeth 'counted'. It got them used to going and it was something that my dentist encouraged.

I took mine as soon as his first four teeth were through. It's good to get them used to it.

I think it's a great idea to take her with me to my appointments. I just wanted to know when people took their children to get their teeth checked for the first time.

Age 4 with DS2.

Took DS1 just before he was 3 and he bit down on the dentist’s finger! Not sure I believe the idea of them getting used to it. The older they are the easier they can understand the idea of it.

DC was registered and booked into their own appointment slot from 6 months. The dentist always had a look to check how the baby teeth looked. Just sitting on my knee at first and a quick look when DC smiled/grinned and built from there. The dentist encouraged it to built familiarity. I can't say this is the same in every practice so just phone your dentist and ask them.

I think I took DS first hen he was about 8 months old. I go every 6/9 months so it was just the first appointment I had when he had teeth. Take him with me every time I go, like pp have said its just a very quick look, dentist puts a cursory finger in but it's a couple of minutes.

I took dd from about 10 months, she only had a couple of teeth but it was more getting her used to it, didn't even get her out of the pram. She goes every time I go, every 6 months or so, doesn't cost anything so why not? She's now two and told me the dentist is fun, she came out of the pram to sit in the big chair this week, let the dentist have a good look at her teeth and got a sticker after. I think it's very good to get them used to it early.
