What should I look for at a creche viewing?

The 2 creches closest to us are:

  • same distance from house
  • same price
  • same opening hours
  • full time only (ie a 5 day week)
  • same ratio of kids to minders

I've booked a viewing with both and am hoping I just get a good feeling about one over the other, but on a practical level, what should look out for and what would make you pick one over the other?

How did people choose theirs?

Cleanliness, happy children, engaged staff
Number of staff, outside space, do the toys look new, food? Music, does it smell nice.

References. Are they almost full? See how your dc reacts.

I took my ds to see 5 childminders (slightly different I know) before I went back to work and in 4 he refused to be put down. In the 5th he sat down and joined in without hesitating. He was right too.

Seeing how staff interact with kids. Cleanliness. Toys, activities. Outside play space especially if it can be used when raining. Food menu. Art projects. Busy road, pollution, parking available.
