Grandparents nickname my lb

Can I please get some opinions on whether I am being too precious...

My lb is nearly 3 years old. My husband's dad and stepmum are great with him and he has a good relationship with them for the most part. However, they call my lb a shortened name that my husband and I really dislike. He is always called by his full name by my husband and I, for example 'Christopher' but they constantly call him 'Chris'. I should have nipped it in the bud straight away but it has now been going on for months and I'm not sure how to deal with it. We never call him 'Chris' and, to us, that's not his name! We called him 'Christopher' for a reason. Of course as our lb grows up he may decide for himself that he would like to shorten it and that's fine but how do I deal with it with them at the moment? Do I just need to ignore it or should I bring it up with them?

Why don’t you just tell them that you want to use his full name.
Because you chose his name and you like it

If it’s a common shortening - Fred for Frederick, Ed for Edward etc. then I think you’re fighting a losing battle. If it’s something a bit more obscure - Ricky for Frederick maybe, then you could say something.

If you chose a name and you don’t like it when someone only says half of it then you’re a bit daft.
