DD (2) being violent towards baby (10 mths)

Perhaps violent is the wrong word as she doesn't actually hit him. But she jumps on his back, pushes him over, grinds his face into the floor and is generally far too rough. I know she's only playing. If I ask her to stop or pull or off she thinks it's one big game and laughs. I have tried to lock her out of the room for 2 mins (time out) but that doesn't seem to be working either. Obviously, this is one behaviour that I can't ignore - does anyone have any tips?

Hi kels66, it's tough isn't it... my kids are 3 years apart so slightly different, but what generally worked was ignoring the 'offender' and making a big fuss over the 'injured' one.

Also if you don't already do it, try and arrange for some 'special time' with your dd. Mine definitely needed that because it started getting on her nerves that baby was always around.

good luck!

DS1 (2.5) has been doing this for the last month with DS2 (8mo). I think DS1 gets out of control because DS2 can now sit up and 'engage' with DS1 - he laughs when DS1 pays him any attention. I've come down on DS1 like a ton of bricks when he's being rough and I think I'm getting through to him; although he gets out of control very, very easily when he's tired.

Basically, I praise him like mad when he's being gentle with DS2 and tell him off when he's rough. Feet, squashing, hitting are not on. I stick to simple words and avoid long-winded explanations. I also remind him that brothers are always gentle with each other. Ha, dream on Hihglander......
