Hi guys

My daughter started boarding (Y9) last Wednesday and although a little reluctant to leave her, I managed fine from Wed-Fri. She's now in her second week. It's now Monday night - she's been gone 24 hours and I cannot get her off my mind. She's sooo happy and enjoying every minute, which inevitably I'm grateful for, but what on earth am I going to do with every weekday evening for the next 5 years!? I know this is very much 1st world problems, but please tell me it gets easier. I feel like I could cry every time I see her photo.

Do you have a partner? Do you have other children? What were your reasons for choosing boarding school? My husband was sent to boarding school at 13. His dad once got drunk and confessed to me it was the biggest regret of his life. His mum has told me she struggled at first but got used to it.

I'm a single parent and she is my only child. I also went to boarding school so I'm familiar with it. I guess the whole time I was so worried about her being happy that I didn't stop to think about how it might affect me. I wouldn't change a thing because she's really happy and it's a great school and opportunity, but I've been so busy for 13 years raising her by myself, and now it's just stopped overnight. I have 6 nights a week to fill and I don't know where to start!

I don't know if it helps but I went to boarding school. I was 14 when I went. It was a great experience and made me very independent. So if yr daughter is happy just go with it. It will benefit her in the long run.
