Just speaking on phone to MIL:
"how's my grandson?" says she
"gorgeous as ever" says I
"is he losing any of that weight now he's walking?"
AAAARRRRGGGGHHHHH...................
" what weight would that be?"
"dont be defensive, lots of babies are fat"
"mmm, i know chubby babies are gorgeous, but ds is NOT FAT"
"well he's hardly petite is he? I dont think you realise how unusual it is for a child his age (14 mths)to have a whole weetabix for breakfast...in fact didnt you say he sometimes has banana with it? Thats more than i have for breakfast!"
And once again:
AAAARRRRGGGGHHHH @&X45$X%&X&%X$(&&!!!!!!!
This is from the woman who, when hearing that ds weighed 7.7lb at birth, exclaimed
"no wonder you needed all those stitches, he's MASSIVE"

AAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH
^For us all,
Think they're all just jealous cos we have been blessed with such gorgeous babies (cos really, on top of already being blessed with looks, wit, humility etc dont we just have all the luck?!)

Its so wierd isn't it?
I wonder with my MIL if its a control thing or some other underlying issue cos he is absolutely not too big (as you can see on my recently added profile pics btw) , or is it that babies were smaller when she had hers?
Or is it, as i suspect, that shes a raving loon?!

nappyaddict · 09/06/2007 00:37

my sister keeps telling me ds is fat. i'm like he's a baby who cares! they're supposed to be. its not like he does anything but sit on his arse all day. she'd be a bit chubby if that's all she did!

wopper · 09/06/2007 00:37

thankyou mozhe. some intelligence.

wopper · 09/06/2007 00:40

jeremyvile

nappyaddict · 09/06/2007 00:41

i don't see what's wrong with 2 weetabix if they want it. they wouldn't eat it if they were full up.

wopper · 09/06/2007 00:44

just cos they want it you give it. well you might just get a fat kid then.thats my piont.

nappyaddict · 09/06/2007 00:45

no not just cos they want it but cos they are hungry for it.

nappyaddict · 09/06/2007 00:47

ds has a egg on toast or cheese on toast plus yoghurt and if i dont give him his yoghurt within half an hour he is crying because he is hungry.

fireflyfairy2 · 09/06/2007 00:47

Do you have kids wopper?

Twinklemegan · 09/06/2007 00:48

Well JV, my 10 month old has a WHOLE Weetabix for breakfast, followed by a 7oz bottle. He's just above the 25th centile and his 6-9 months trousers are still too big for him. Families eh? Mind you, it's more likely to be my mother saying stuff like that.

mozhe · 09/06/2007 00:49

babies vary in size,( a bit like the rest of us...),and if your baby is hmmm, how shall we put it, 'nicely covered'...that may very well be ok.You yourself may be a bigger person etc. And if the baby is getting s much breastmilk as he wants and,( if over 6 months...still fairly little imo..but it's the 'official' age so heigh ho..),feeding himself as much food as he wants, when he wants...then it is perfectly healthy. He will probably thin out a bit when he is moving around a more .Porky babes who are formula fed, and ones who are solid fed very early....with large amounts of semi-liquid food....There is a danger that they could be overfed...A lot of whea at such a young age may not be the best thing either...
We shouldn't get so emotional/angry about weight/food it's very destructive.Just ask yourself a few questions perhaps.
People are always telling me my children,( all smaller than average and light too ), are too skinny, but I know this is rot. They have smaller than average parents, and they are all allowed to control the amount of food they eat to their own natural pattern.

nappyaddict · 09/06/2007 00:49

if they want to eat lots and you give them healthy stuff they won't exactly get fat. now if it was 2 cheeseburgers that would be a different story.

wopper · 09/06/2007 00:50

yes i have 2.
their not fat by the way

fireflyfairy2 · 09/06/2007 00:53

Neither is jeremyvile's ds.

ffs, a child is hardly obese because he eats a whole weetabix.

Goodnight, JV, give your lovely cuddly a nice snuggle from me xoxo

nappyaddict · 09/06/2007 00:55

by the way i think you mean they're not fat.

mozhe · 09/06/2007 00:59

Lots of young babies like the slurpy/sucking action of eating semi-solid food.Often it is the adult who has decided ...right I'm giving him 2 weetabix for his breakfast...and proceeds to shovel it in fairly fast.
Whats the matter with baby deciding he wants a yogurt later ?
One of my children never eats breakfast, he simply says he is not hungry,( I'm the same and was too as a child....my stomach just doesn't want food 'til afteer 10am..),we just give him a little selection of nibbly bits to munch on at break time,( he goes to nursery school x 3 mornings a week ).He always drinks 2,( small tumblers ), glasses of water though. That is his natural patten. He is healthy, though smallish, and gets on well with food.

nappyaddict · 09/06/2007 01:03

no if he doesn't have the yoghurt straight away within half an hour he is crying cos he is hungry. my last comment didn't read very well.

nappyaddict · 09/06/2007 01:04

should add its usually more like 5 mins!

SofiaAmes · 09/06/2007 03:20

My ds was the fattest baby ever (well except for my dd and me). We're all skinny as can be now. And ds (6.5) eats more than I do.

mylittlefreya · 09/06/2007 06:34

Yes you can overfeed babies. But the original posters comment about MIL interfering in what the baby eats, and how big the baby is - is not about overfeeding. Aaaaargh for you, JeremyVile. I am sure your ds is entirely gorgeous and eats just fine. My mother seems to have developed even more eating issues since I was young and also witters about dd eating too much (she is on the 9th centile...) I also need to perfect the look....

BonyM · 09/06/2007 07:13

My dd1 used to have 2 weetabix for breakfast at this age - and banana sometimes. She's 9 now and the skinniest child in her class. She eats loads - more than dh and I!

JeremyVile · 09/06/2007 10:59

Aw, Thankyou FFF2.
Nappyaddict, your ds is gorgeous, tell your sister she's a silly moo!
Somebody said that these types of people (not just MILs) would have something to say no matter what, is so right.
When i first started weaning ds (at 6 mths not 4 as my mum and MIL thought i should do!)his first solid 'meal' was pureed potato and carrot, but MIL was utterly convinced i was going to cause him some sort of mortal injury and thought it would be much better to give him some trifle .......
wtf?!!!

JeremyVile · 09/06/2007 11:11

Wopper, which part was big-headed?
The completely (and clearly) tongue-in-cheek comment?
Or mentioning that i now have pics on my profile?
If the latter, then yup you're absolutely right. I could never get tired of telling the world how wonderful my son is (whether you or anyone would agree is neither here nor there).
But we're all like that with our dcs aren't we? aren't you Wopper?

Other than that Wopper, may i introduce you to my good friend Dr Giveashit......

RubberDuck · 09/06/2007 11:18

Oh ffs ... both my kids (aged 3 and 6) have more than me for breakfast. They have two bowls of cereal AND toast and are skinny as rakes.

Your MIL is a nutter.
