Suddenly screaming at night :(

My DD has been a good sleeper since she was around 12 weeks. Didn't bat at an eyelid when she was moved into her cot from my room, carried on sleeping right through the night, and she self settles to sleep. She is now 6 months old. Her night routine is the same each night. She has a bath, 15 minutes of rolling around, letting herself air dry, she has cream put on (baby eczema) then pyjamas, then has a bottle, I sing her a lullaby, say goodnight and put her in her cot. She will wriggle and babble for 5-10 minutes then fall asleep.
But the past 3 nights ..... 😩😩😩😩 everything is straight forward and right on track til she goes into her cot and I leave ... then she screams the house down! Not just whinging, full on crying, she ends up coughing, tears are rolling down her face and she's hysterical. Calms down when she sees me, and just when I think she's alright and I leave, it starts all over again. It can last up to 2 hours, of me going back uk to her room, calming her, and she cries again! I'm reluctant to take her out and settle her to sleep in my arms, because I don't want her to think that's how bedtime will be. I don't understand why she has started to do this all of a sudden. She's not like this during the day, doesn't cry for me when I put her in her cot for her naps and leave her there, so I don't know why she does in at bedtime!
Any advice? I don't like the idea of her crying it out, but I also don't want her to think she will be cuddled to sleep every night, especially when she has done so well for the last 3 months!
