Do you do this before holiday with children?

There's lots of illness going around and we are set to go on a long haul flight next Saturday. It'll be about 20 hours travel time. We have a 19 month old, and I was thinking of not going to any playgroups Wednesday onwards in fear of him catching a sickness and canceling our holiday. Is this too much and should I let him go to them still? I'm a stay at home mum and we always go out every day somewhere, we'd obviously still go to the park and stuff but just not to playgroups with lots of children the few days leading up to our holiday. Does anyone else do this or am I being paranoid? It's an important holiday, we're going to see my poorly mum.

Yes . I wouldn't risk missing the holiday for a playgroup.

If it’s something you’re worried about then it’s fair enough; he isn’t missing out on much by not going to a couple of groups. I’d do the same if it occurred to me.

One half term, we booked a very expensive villa in France with my BIL and SIL and all our kids.

When we met at the tunnel, was told that their DC had had upset stomachs on and off all the previous week, with the last bout of sickness being the day before we travelled. They’d apparently caught it from nursery.

We then had to stand back and watch as this really unpleasant virus tore through both families and completely spoiled the who trip. There literally wasn’t a day where everyone was well.

So in short, I’d do exactly the same as you and not go anywhere for a week prior to your trip.

Ive done this with my DS before, especially when we were going through a rough time with illness after illness and we really needed a nice holiday!

Thanks everyone! We'll be going to a swimming class on Tuesday (maybe) but I'm going to cancel our plans we had with a friend his age to go to soft play. She's recently had hand, foot, mouth so I think we'll play it safe 👍
