Potty - is this ok

So my 3 year old uses potty downstairs and toilet upstairs

I have a outside garden sink where I wash it out when it's a wee and take poo upstairs

The thing is we have no downstairs toilet and have gates on as we have a dog so she can't get upstairs .

Can I keep her using potty for the next year until she can master gate ....

She happily uses it and takes her off to conservatory and sits on it and will use toilet upstairs when we are up there .

Is this ok or should I remove potty and start going upstairs during the day. At moment it works I'm future thinking ....

Is the stair gate essential now she's three?

Yes because I have a dog which cannot go upstairs

Same set up as my house. No dogs upstairs, but mine can open the gate with hitting it as hard as they can till it pops open! Ha ha.
But yes just keep using it downstairs until they can master the gate, try show her how to use the gate too like she is helping mummy out so they know. I've only just got rid of mine downstairs and my daughter has just turned 4 x

Thank you ....

I will do the same. At moment she is very quick to need a wee as we have only been doing potty for 4 weeks

So I'm future thinking .

Thank you

Why wouldn’t she just ask an adult to open the stairgate for her? Surely that would be easier than trying to sort out potties all the time. At 3, I expect she will soon be physically too big for a potty, plus her wees might soon be too big to fit in

I think I’d absolutely keep the potty for emergencies, but encourage my 3 year old to either learn to open the gate or to ask for it to be opened so she could go upstairs.

We have a gate that 3 year old DS can’t open and I’m happy to keep it that way due to crawling baby DD, but he will just ask (shout) for someone to open the gate if he wants to go past.
