At what age would you generally transition your LO from a cot to a bed?

We have a cotbed and I'm not really sure

We kept the sides on ours as long as possible. Dc1 was 2y8m and my bump with dc2 was too big to bed over the sides. Dc2 was about 2y2m as he was out of nappies around then so needed to get out for the potty.

My dm was constantly nagging me to move them from 18m as thats what she did with us, then she said we would just get out and empty out all our clothes from the drawers etc. So why put yourself through that Grin

My advice is keep them in the cot forever. We had to move him into a bed just the week after he turned 2 as he was climbing out. It was then end of any sort of calmness at bed time. He'll be 4 in December and we still struggle at bed time. And if he wakes up at night, he's out of bed. At least when he was in the cot he had nothing to do but fall back to sleep.

It's good to hear there's no sort of pressure by a certain age!

We're still quite away off as he's only 14 months but I was just curious!

Did ours both at around 18- 20 months. No problems, they transitioned fine. DD1 got up a couple of times for the first few nights but it didn’t last long. DD3 never got up and 1.5 years later still hasn’t!

DD went into a tall full sized single at 17 months after launching herself out of her cot (in a gro bag!)

SoyDora · 01/09/2018 08:40

Yeah we went straight for full sized singles too.

When potty training forces your hand!
Just go with your child, there's no rush

My youngest is 28 months and I'm going to have to put her in a bed very soon as she's nearly grown out of her cot lengthwise. I'm dreading it! Always such a palava with them getting out 100 times at bedtime and I know she will stop napping too 😭

Moved ours at 15 months with no issues. I was struggling to reach down into the cot to change the sheets etc, the bed has been much easier.
