DS2 coming home from a few days away

He's been away with friends. They have a long drive home and I don't really know what time they're expected.

I've been invited on a night out in town on the day he's due back. If I go I will either not be here when he gets home (DH will be) or will be getting ready and leaving soon after he gets in.

Is that OK? If asked he'd say it's fine, he's 15yo and when he's here generally doesn't want a lot to do with us these days, but not appearing to want us around and genuinely not wanting us around are two different things for teenagers!

So, would you go out as your Ds is returning from holiday or would you stay in to welcome him home and maybe hear his news, although it's highly likely he won't have much to say?

FWIW I don't go out much, it's typical that this invitation should fall on this date.

100% I would go out and not feel guilty. If I was out before he got home I'd leave a note to say looking forward to hearing all about your holiday tomorrow.

It’s fine! See him the next day.

Of course you should go out. It will be good for your son to realise that you have a social life!
