Advice about chicco Next 2 Me please!

Hello there,

I’m due in a few weeks (first baby) and we’ve got our next 2 me crib all set up. But Im confused about whether I need a waterproof mattress cover or not. The Lullaby Trust says you should have a waterproof mattress cover to reduce SIDS risk. But chicco don’t seem to make one.

What did you guys do?

Many thanks in advance!

Never heard of it reducing SIDS risk, but I had one purely to protect the mattress as DS had terrible reflux. I got it from TK maxx, Clever Mama brand. Crib size waterproof sheet - then another fitted sheet over the top Smile

I'm using a cot bed sized one, which is too big. It is held tightly in place by the crib sized normal sheet over the top and I can keep using it when we move on to a cot bed. Not sure why I didn't get a crib sized one originally but this is baby no.2 so I'm not bothering to change now.

I didn’t have one and never considered it , dont understand how it could reduce sids ? X

Had to delete my link but amazon have ones that fit the next to me crib. I have the little green sheep one.

We never had one, and I didn’t really feel that we needed it. I just put sheets on. It actually never occurred to me. The mattress is very firm anyway so I can’t see it being a SIDS risk especially.

My BiL bought our next 2 me crib and set it up with OH when I was in hospital with our littleone but I'm certain that it came with the waterproof mattress cover that is on there.

I doubt they'd think of it. They bought a couple of fitted sheets as well but the mattress has a separate grey cover that is waterproof I think.

Thanks all! I wondered if the mattress was already waterproof but it doesn’t say so in the instructions.

This is the one I use and its fits the Next To Me perfectly. The mattress that comes with the next to me definitely is not waterproof. My baby has reflux so is sick a lot (and has also wet & pooed in his crib Confused ) and I definitely wouldn't want to not use a waterproof sheet/mattress protector Smile

I also have the little green sheep one which is great as j can transfer it to the new crib (and just place it in the middle) as it isn't a fitted sheet.

Thanks all, this is very useful and I have two good recommendations to check out - brilliant.

Just to explain, I was reading the bit of the Lullabye Trust website on safe bedding and it says:

“Use a firm, flat and waterproof mattress in good condition
You should use a firm and flat mattress that is protected by a waterproof cover. This will help keep the mattress clean and dry, as the cover can be wiped down.”

So it’s not actually clear if the need for a waterproof mattress is safety advice per se, or just suggested because it’s more practical to clean! But as an anxious FTM expecting a much longed-for baby I am perhaps taking things a bit too literally Grin thanks again all!
