Afew questions about going out and bedtime when you are potty training

We are starting to potty train ds1 and the last few days have gone really well. He is ace at using the potty when he is naked, getting much better with pants on (only one accident today, day 3) and is even remembering when he is watching tv

We are planning to stay in for the week to really get going, but I was wondering what everyone does when they go out and at bedtime? So;

  1. What do you do when you are at a toilet (public or friends house) and there is not seat/potty?

  2. Is it best to train for the day then tackle the night or do it all in one go?

  3. If you wait, do you leave them in nappies til the nappies are dry for afew days/weeks in the morning?

Thanks for the help!

Hi DH!
I don't know about 2 & 3, but you can get all sorts of out and about potty type thingies like this though I dare say that there are more environmentally friendly ones, I just did a quick google.

As soon as i started training DS1 i took a fold up potty out with me. I also occasionally used it at home so that he would be ok sitting on it.

I did day at first and left the night until he was ready

We waited until one day DS1 said he didn't want a nappy on at night. ( we had planted the idea in his head a few times) We were completely unprepared and i layed out pampers care mats where he might be lying.

Cheers 2happy and MOM!

That fold up potty looks good and I saw this was wondering if anyone had tried it?

i took ds out without nappies when i felt he could do it..he was reluctant pant wearer and toilet user ( i skipped potty he was just not interested and made it easier)..

i went to places i knew had toilets mall, shops, etc ...it gave confidence etc

did day still have not started night he likes night nappy and now know it will happen so not stressed

lots of praise charts stars chocolate buttons promise of big trip out to choose toy when dryfor week or so...

good luck

Hi Dragonhart. I've been potty training dd for about 10 days. When going out I've been taking her toilet seat with us. A couple of times when I haven't taken it she has been fine going while I hold her up on the toilet. I looked at the link for the fold up seat. I've not tried it but it doesn't look very comfortable.

I'm concentrating on the day training for now. I don't think dd will be ready to go without a nappy at night for a while.

Good luck. Hope it's still going well.

Thanks everyone. I have tried the pottette and it is good, sometimes I have been a bit slow with it but good for the buggy for if he needs it on the way somewhere or in the car.

Didnt buy the toilet seat, but think I would for a girl, even just as a cover for public toilets. Will try to get him o stand up .

Gill- hope it is going well for you. We had had afew really good days then today, lots of accidents. Guess it is all a learning curve!
