5 weeks old- spits up milk after feed

Just wondering...... My baby is 5 weeks now.... Lately he feeds and no matter how
Long after....as soon as he’s flat on his back... he spits some out. It’s not sick and he doesn’t cry or bother him, just opens his mouth and it trickles out. My health visitor is away till Friday to ask. And everyone else bottle feeds 🤷‍♀️

Sounds normal! If he is not upset by it. My DS didnt stop spitting up until 12 months despite everyone’s promises that it would get better when he started weaning Grin he I saw breastfed btw. I’d invest in a truck load of muslins, I folded one up and kept it under his head in the pram/cot/playmat so it was easy to clean up!

*he is breastfed that should say!

Are you winding during/ after feeding?

@BorahT thank you! Makes me feel better! He isn't bothered at all by it, and usually wants to feed straight after too, that's why I think it's him over feeding himself or now swallowing it all.

@arbrighton he is burped and winded after every feed, I also try and keep him up more upright after feeding for 20-30 mins

Normal and nothing to worry about. Baby will grow out of it.

@QueenAravisOfArchenland
Thank you! Makes me feel a lot better. Few people said I should change my diet to see if it makes a difference but glad it's normal x

Have you had latch checked? Even with winding we had really big projectile vomiting most days about that age. But i knew latch was shallow as I had a fast letdown and he was gulping air even when he wasn't coming off as milk sprayed every where!

Rach000 · 20/08/2018 07:03

It is normal. My health visitor said it is due to the their stomach muscles not been filled developed so milk can easily come back up. My baby is 7 months and is a lot better but is still a bit sickly. You will needs loads of muslins and will need to do a lot of washing.

EyeDrops · 20/08/2018 07:30

Yep, normal. My dd spit up constantly and randomly (often well after feeds) until about 7/8 months. Just keep plenty of spare clothes & muslins always to hand, you get used to it!

Poppy1989 · 20/08/2018 07:31

@arbrighton haven't had latch checked but I'm guessing it's shallow as sometimes there's still slight pain at first.

@Rach000 @EyeDrops
Thank you both so much. Have just done an online shop to stock up on muslins! May try a bib too so less goes down his baby grows! 👍🏼
