Is calpol a sedative?

I’ve given my son calpol twice in two days (he’s 12weeks old) due to pain, and after both times he’s slept a long time afterwards. He usually only sleeps in 15 minute bursts and is a bit of a cranky-arse but the twice I’ve given him calpol he’s out like a light.
Is it a sedative or is he managing to sleep due to not being in as much pain? I’m worried it will cause some harm

No it’s not a sedative, is just paracetamol. If they haven’t been sleeping well due to pain then getting rid of the pain makes them sleep!

It's not a sedative, but if he's poorly he's likely to sleep more. Or if his sleep was disturbed due to pain, he may just be catching up. Where is his pain coming from?

no it's not a sedative. just paracetamol i.e, pain relief
as pp said dc probably couldn't sleep due to pain.

Definitely not a sedative- just paracetamol

Thank you. He’s teething and has a cold, plus sore throat/cough. I haven’t given him any today as he seems to be coping better so I think being able to sleep helped significantly!

Calpol doesn't contain sedative as such, but has Maltitol in it which is sugar alcohol hence used as a sweetener to replace regular sugar. I'm sure it can have the effect of a sedative because I noticed the same thing with my daughter ie she falls asleep soon after having a dose of calpol.

Calpol is basically paracetamol in a child friendly suspension
