Hello! My 6 year old daughter love to watch videos of toy surprises and lol dolls etc. on youtube. Recently she has been scared to goto sleep saying LOL dolls are coming to life in the night, and that someone at dance told her that her LOL dolls were going to move stuff around her room. Obviously I know this isn't true, but my oldest daughter, 8, said there are scary things on the youtube videos her sister is watching. When I put them in I read the title and it says 'LOL surprise doll opening' etc but has anyone experienced inappropriate videos on youtube? do I need to be more careful when she is on her tablet?

Yes. Obviously.

There is some awful stuff on you tube.
Your six year old should not be watching unsupervised and you should be ensuring that all parental controls are set appropriately.
My 6 year old was allowed to watch CBeebies and some CBBC programmes and not a lot else unless it had been vetted first.

Thanks for that statement. I Know its pretty obvious but I don't know if the videos are actually bad or if its just kids being kids. Ive watched some of the videos and they seem to be okay, also she uses youtube kids, which puts restrictions on things!

Thank you. As I said she has restrictions on and I do watch her regularly and check her search history but I can't fin anything bad, I wonder if its just a rumour going around kids, as youtube doesn't seem to be the root of the problem at this point. Just making sure no one else has had the problem.

I've seen videos of shows like peppa pig where the episode is normal for. 2-3 minutes then horrifying things happen to that pig...

6 year olds should just never be unsupervised on You Tube

DanceTeacherMom · 13/08/2018 20:41

Thank you for informing me, I had no idea a pig who live on a hill in the middle of nowhere could have such negative connotations! I shall be making sure she watches episodes on Netflix now on instead of youtube!

If you read my updates, I have stated she is regularly supervised and her videos are restricted, I believe this is a rumour from other kids rather than her seeing this video herself, thank you!

'my oldest daughter, 8, said there are scary things on the youtube videos her sister is watching. When I put them in I read the title and it says 'LOL surprise doll opening' '

Oh, I read this as if you weren't always there watching etc.

My mistake

I personally don't let my 8yo on you tube either but each to their own.

DanceTeacherMom · 13/08/2018 20:51

Yeah, my 8 year old isn't interested in youtube and much prefers movies but she regularly says things like, '-- saw scary lol dolls on youtube' and so on, so I though she meant her sister was watching these same lol videos, which I have checked and she isnt. I am going to delete youtube from my household from now one and use Netflix instead I think. As really anyone can post to youtube so easily!
