So I discovered today 10 yo dc has been chatting to "friends" on Roblox. We have had many conversations about chatting online and the dangers. And yet it was still done. The chats were seemingly inoccuous - are you coming online etc, and certainly no lengthy worrying conversations. I specifically asked the other day if dc was chatting online and was told "no". It's the lying that has bothered me more than the content of the chats. I was thinking about a week's ban of screentime and possibly deleting the game. Is this an under reaction? Or over reaction? DC normally v well behaved. Opinions? Thanks.

Weeks ban sounds fair and do explain why regarding using chat/lying.

Deleting may be an over reaction if first offence Grin
by all means you can use deletion as a warning.

Monitor use frequently, find out who everyone is, if you don't know them ask dc to delete/block that person.

Thanks Pink. Seems fair. We didn't have this trouble when I were a nipper!

I think a week ban is appropriate, that feels like forever for a 10yo. However also agree with pp that discussing how serious an issue it is, and putting a strict "if it happens again" clause in is important. Perhaps also tell him you'll be doing random checks, so don't think he can fool you by hiding it ;)

Where is the computer? It needs to be in a communal room so you can monitor more closely. Mine have been warned on this, no second chanced. First time I see them talking to strangers they lose online games.
