Filtering friends?

Following on from the filtering party invites thread, I wondered what peoples different views were about friends in general.

Do you reserve the right to screen friendships, or do you take a very much more hands off approach? What would you do if you were concerned about the negative influence one friend was having on your dc?

Depends on their ages really.
I'm completely hands off now that they are older.
There has only been one child that I have not been so keen on my children playing with, due to him being very aggressive, and swearing at every available opportunity.
In that situation I just invited other children round to play instead, and the friendship fizzled out.
