I'm not 100% if its sweat or pee but my 8 day old lad is soaking when i get him up for his feed etc.
It's hot in the room but I have stripped him to either just a nappy or a nappy and a vest.
He is not clammy or red or indicating that he is hot.
His nappy changes are normal, wet and heavy as you would expect, doesn't indicate that there is a leak.
His boy bits are down.

When I pick him up his back is soaked, like ringing wet.
The mattress is soaked.
Just now, everything was fine, I changed him from a long sleeve onesie to a vest as was putting him for a nap in a room that was a little warmer.
Within 3 mins, the best and cot was soaked.

Makes me think it's pee not sweat.

I called 111 (I don't have a midwife at the moment so had nobody else to ask) and they got a doctor to check him over.
Verdict was all ok just dry skin which may make him sweaty. Use baby oil on his skin.

Seeing as it happens so quick I'm thinking it's pee. Doesn't smell. Doesn't appear to be any yellow or anything.

Lil man is 5.9lbs so been using pampers micro as the pampers newborn swamped him.
He has a tiny bum and legs and a lil round belly. I wonder if that's the cause of the wetness? Somehow pee is sneaking up the back?!

I'm gonna try different brands and see if it makes a difference. Any recommendations?
Read somewhere that It's better to use a size bigger for boys?

Pampers size 1 ahould be fine. Sometimes they manage to per out the side/up tje back while you're changinf them! Is rhe nappy definitely closed tightly enough?

ShakeVigorously · 05/08/2018 16:57

Ah I had this for a time with my newborn and couldn't figure out for the life of me why!

Spent ages at each nappy change positioning the nappy, tabs and his 'boy bits' Blush One day it just stopped happening. Sorry no help.

It's pee!
It just happened again and we could actually see where it was coming from finally!
Right. Now to trial many different brands and find one that fits lil man.

Phew. Was worried it was sweat and he was overheating really badly!!

Have you thought about trying cloth nappies or even just a cloth booster to contain the pee? A microfibre booster with a bamboo or cotton booster would probably do the job.

Angeliki159 · 05/08/2018 18:48

I would love to go down the cloth nappy route.....
I'm not sure I would be able to handle using the cloth nappies tho. I'm a first time mum and basically have no idea what I'm doing.
The thought of scraping poo out of a nappy , put it in a bucket and washing it out, is a bit of a struggle for me.
I'm working through the mountain of free nappies I managed to hoarde while I was pregnant.
I will look into the cloth ones again.

OP we have been using cloth nappies this time from birth as my DS was a chunky monkey. I don't rinse, soak or scrape my nappies they go straight in the machine every 3 days for a cold rinse. Easy as pie & once rinsed i can add towels etc too.

Even if you have sposies maybe look at getting a few cloth boosters to help with heavy wetting? My 6 week old is peeing like a racehorse, i think i'd be changing a sposie every time i turned around...my ultra padded cloth is just lasting me 2 hours at the minute 🙈

SoyDora · 05/08/2018 18:59

What’s a ‘sposie’?
OP try going up a size, it may help.

Pissedoffdotcom · 05/08/2018 19:03

Sorry, sposie is disposable 😂 we're a bit tapped in our house!

NameChangeCuddleBums · 05/08/2018 19:03

My baby was a similar size and Asda size 0 were the only decent nappies. I recommend them. Congratulations

We had a leaking issue with pampers and found Aldi or Tesco nappies to be far better, despite being much cheaper!
