My DS is nearly 2 and a half and has been in nursery 4 days a week since he was 11 months old. Great nursery and once he’d settled in he has never been remotely upset about drop offs except when moving rooms etc.
We potty trained him a few weeks ago and he’s done brilliantly. He has no accidents whatsoever when he’s at home or with my DPs (where he goes on the fifth day of the week he’s not at nursery). Fine with wees at nursery and again no accidents, but he’s not happy about doing poos on the potty there for some reason and is having a poo accident most nursery days, which he gets upset about.
In the last week or so he’s become really clingy and getting upset about nursery drop offs. His speech is very good and when we get up in the morning he asks me if he’s going to nursery today and if I say yes he says he doesn’t want to go. Then when I drop him off, tears and “I want to go home mummy”. They tell me he usually settles quickly after I’ve gone, but it’s heartbreaking and I feel like it must be the potty training that’s triggered it, but don’t know how to fix it. We’ve tried bringing his potty from home to nursery, so it’s more familiar, but that doesn’t seem to have made a difference. Nursery have tried the usual sticker rewards etc but he already gets loads of stickers for doing his wees in the potty so I don’t think it’s much of an incentive.
I’m not sure what else to try and wondered if anyone has any tips? I don’t care about the accidents, if it takes longer for him to “get it” at nursery that’s fine, but I hate him being unhappy.
