Sorry - said Houdini tackled me and pressed send!

Basically does anyone know of a car seat that is really really hard to unbuckle?

Numerous explanations to him haven't helped and I'm sick of doing emergency pull overs now!

We used to look for car seats with 5 point harnesses instead of 3.

The other option:
They're not attractive but look up "Houdini car harness" I used to work in a special school and many of the children had these for exactly this reason ... all escape artists from a car seat.

Kiddy one with no buckle? It has a sort of thing in front which the seatbelt holds in place.
All the children I ferried about over the years fought to sit in it.

I had two children that would escape any child seat. I eventually found one of this style of car seats with a bumper bar. They are impossible to escape. I got mine off eBay, can't remember the make/brand but this style works !
Escape Proof Car Seat

Good luck.

Have a google for "child proof car seat buckle" my brothers SN school buses used various gadgets to foil the escape artists.

Don’t get the Cybex shield one though, my 18m old can pull the seat belt out of it. Fortunately he only does it when we are parked and he wants to get out but I’m really disappointed with how easy it is to do.

NannyR · 01/08/2018 19:06

I have a kiddy guardian seat and I've used it with lots of children, none have escaped. Their arms aren't long enough to reach the seat belt buckle. I thought I would get resistance from them about the impact shield (to an adult it looks a bit restrictive) but they all like their "special cushion" and are happy to be buckled in.

ArfArfBarf · 01/08/2018 19:24

With the cybex one ds pushes the diagonal strap out to the side until it comes out of the belt guard. It’s still buckled in but the shoulder part of the strap is now trying to go behind his head. He’s a not particularly strong 18m old so I’d imagine a 2 year old would have no problem. I expect the kiddy brand seats might be designed better.

The ones with the bar across aren't recommended by the car seat experts, let me find their post...
Is Houdini unbuckling or just getting arms free?

TheGirlWhoLived · 01/08/2018 19:30

I had the cossato one which was childproof!

emdude · 01/08/2018 19:54

He's unbuckling. He's been able to unbuckle the Graco ones for ages but only today has mastered the Maxi Cosi one!

I'm surprised he has the strength!

emdude · 01/08/2018 20:59

Me too, it's quite a stiff buckle!!
