Our son used to respond to naughty step but now he just laughs at us when we put him on the step. He is nearly 3. How do you discipline your children?

The original meaning of discipline is 'instruction or knowledge'. The naughty step gives neither. Three year olds are incapable of reflecting independently on their actions - they need a conversation and an emotionally supportive connection. Children need to learn to behave because they want to please their parents not because they'll be punished if they don't.

Reward chart plus if necessary the threat that something will happen/be removed etc and follow through.

1-2-3 magic ... google it

It works perfectly, i have been using it with my boy since he was a toffler and now he's 11. I can't remember the last time I had to count.

I second 123 magic, worked on both of mine, and still does now (6 & 9). Rarely get to 3 nowadays either.
