Best SIM only or PAYG for a child

I don't know whether to go with a payg or sim only. Any advice?

My child is later primary age, will use lots of data and only phone me and other family really.

I have a phone already. Looking for no more than £10 a month ideally.

PAYG or sim only depends really on how you will financing it. Will you be giving the child pocket money and expecting them to do top-ups (good for teaching responsibility) or paying monthly through your bank account?

Oh I hadn't thought of that, it is a very good idea. I'll give the pocket money aspect some thought.

DS3 has a payg SIM but I've changed it to a £5 a month SIM from ID that includes 1GB a month data with a £5 cap on extras. So a max of £10 a month. The data if not fully used is rolled over to the next month. There are unlimited texts and 500 minutes per month on top.

I found the best sim only rolling contract was plusnet, it's about £9 a month unlimited calls and texts and 4gb data. Both my sons are happy with them

I've dipped my toe in the water with this for my primary aged child.

I've used 1p mobile.com. Everything's 1p!!, only need to top up every 3 months with £10.00. No contract, very easy to deal with. I don't think DC has racked up more than £3.00 a month on charges since he has had it. Worked out really well for us so far.
You could try it out as no contract? And see how long the tenner lasts!
In fact when my phone contract runs out I will probably swap to it as I am not a massive mobile phone user and it will be cheaper.
