Fontanelle normal or not?

Hello,
My baby is 7 weeks & 4 days and today I have noticed that his fontanelle is ever so slightly sunken or at least I think so. I’ve never actually felt it prior so it’s hard to compare and he has a head full of thick dark hair which makes it really difficult to see.
Should I be taking him to the Drs or is a very slight dip normal? It seems to be certain positions make it feel more prominent. I’m a big worrier so any advice would be greatfully received

Normally a sign of dehydration - if he is more sleepy than usual because of the weather, may be worth waking him up to feed fairly regularly so he is getting enough milk

I think Pittcue may be right. In this weather he could be dehydrated. If you aren't sure, can you contact your helath visitor?

Although a slight dip is totally nornal, so depends on how low the dip is usually like you say! You can ask at the 8 week check up if unsure x

It’s hard to answer as they’re normally a little sunken in babies as the skull forms/shapes underneath. I remember doing the exact same thing and feeling my daughters for the first time and panicking about dehydration as it was slightly concave. Turned out that was just normal for her.

Thank you. He’s bottle fed since 5 weeks and has always fed extremely well and would take more if I offered it to him even though it would make him sick, he’d want to swallow that too lol. I gave him 30ml (1oz) cool boiled water and taking 7 feeds within 24 hours when the box advises only 5-6. I’ve over diluted his bottles this past week at the Drs advise to help with constipation as I’d switched from breast to bottle. Does this now sound like I should visit dr? X

If he is feeding well, has plenty of wet and dirty nappies and it's only slightly sunken, I wouldnt worry as sounds perfectly normal. Assume you'll be having a check at 8 weeks when he'll get first set of immunisations, so you can always double check then for peace of mind

yes 8 week check on Friday. Thanks so much for the advice Smile
