PLAYDATE question - LONELY Boy of 7.

DS is 7 and playdates seem few and far between. AS I mentioned on another thread there may be cultural reasons connected to his school why they are so few. His school has a large number of immigrants and language can be a problem for the kids add to that his best friend's father won't allow him to go to the house of non Muslim kids.

Result is very few playdate and it is very apparent this half term. I am friendly with a Mum whose daughter is in his class but while there are playdates between them I feel that t is a little unsatisfactory for both of them.

He plays tennis and has a ball on court but it never translates to invites etc. What am I doing wrong cos I feel I am.

It doesn't sound like you are doing anything wrong. If there is a language/cultural barrier, there isn't a lot you can do overnight about it.

My 7 yo is a popular child, but she has not been invited anywhere (and I don't tend to do inviting here). I find it is easier as they get older as then they arrange things between themselves with very little recourse to parents.

Yes that is what i have been trying to encourage getting him to invite kids but he doesn't seem that keen.

Does DS do other out of school activities where there is a social element to it - beavers perhaps? Or maybe something like drama or sport?

Sounds like you'll have to do the inviting, write a short note for one of his class mates & ask the teacher to give it to the child at the end of the day.

You could also approach one of the Mum's with similar age ds at Tennis & invite them over or suggest a game of tennis sometime soon?
