What should an 8 year olds penis look like?

Sorry I know this isn’t the loveliest of topics! Deffo not a troll either.

I’m from a family of a lot of women so not really sure what is normal. My son can’t peel back his foreskin yet, is that normal? When should he be able to?
Also it’s still very small, when do they start to get a growth spurt? He has started to notice his friends bits and is feeling self conscious already.

I think it's normal for that age. I've a 9 year old and 10 month old and theirs doesn't go back, though I haven't really seen my elder son's for a while. I asked my partner about this and he says it's normal for boys.

my dh told me that they had a health check for something or other at around this age, and they encouraged the boys in the shower/bath to gently begin to pull it back to clean it. Gradually it stretches.

as to size, that comes with puberty

Oh phew! Didn’t want to go to the doctors over it as he’s not in any pain or anything.

So the size he is now has nothing to do with what it will be like when he’s older?

We had a chat about it the other night and he knows things will change during puberty, but obviously he’s living in the here and now and feels embarrassed.

Yes puberty will change things. It's fine if it doesn't retract yet as long as there is no pain or infection

My son is 8 and we are currently awaiting a hospital referral for him. His fire skin is very tight - to the point where he cannot urinate standing up because his penis balloons and he can’t control the direction of it. It also gets infected fairly frequently despite his daily shower so he has to use a steroid cream to keep it under control. This is all drastic - it sounds like your boy is ok if he’s not in pain etc.

Foreskin*

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 22/07/2018 21:39

Unless it's so tight he can't pee his foreskin is fine and doesn't need cleaning until he's old enough to be sexually active / experimenting with himself.

sirfredfredgeorge · 22/07/2018 22:13

CaptainKirkssparetupee but that could be quite soon of course...

Although I will say cleanliness was never a problem even with a foreskin that couldn't retract until many, many years after I'd been experimenting with myself.

If there aren't any symptoms or any infections, it certainly doesn't need to be worried about, if it is a problem later, certainly don't accept circumcision as the only option.
