10 month old screaming

I love DD but am being driven round the twist by her screaming, mainly when she wants company but I'm not playing with her, or when I'm trying to talk to DH. It's been going for a few (long) weeks now.

My instinct is to ignore since any attention reinforces that screaming gets a reaction, but is that logic too much for a 10.5 month old? Or should I respond in a normal voice? Or try distract her? If you've had this, did anything you did improve things?

By screaming do you mean with crying or is she just testing out her voice? If she’s upset, I would defiantly give her attention.

No, not upset (though she becomes upset if screaming is ignored). Just sudden, high-pitched, loud screams. Not tired, hungry, wet or anything else. It's literally that she sees me not paying attention to her, and she screams.

It does sound like a phase. I know i’ll probably cone over as a bit of a crank but have you thought of reaching her some signs? I’m just thinking that if the screaming is from frustration, signing might get her to communicate with you in a quieter way Smile

If you want to talk to DH, can you get him to hold her? That might distract her a bit too.
