Refluxy 10 week old

Help! My 10 week old DS is a Velcro baby and I’m really struggling. He will not nap during the day unless it’s on me and even that is becoming hit and miss Sad

I have a sling, which we both loved but now it’s too hot for both of us.

Gaviscon doesn’t seem to make a huge amount of difference and he seems so uncomfortable all the time.

I just don’t know how to get him to sleep anywhere else during the day. I have a nearly 2 year old DD too, so everything is a bit chaotic.

Sorry about the rambling post. Any advice would be so so appreciated

Hi. I don’t have much advice but DS had colic before getting reflux. It’s not bad enough for strong medication etc but we tried gaviscon which resulted in constipation which was worse than the reflux. We use carobel milk thickener currently which you add to the bottle. Not sure how you are feeding etc? You can go to the GP if you feel it is bad enough for some meds but most are quite hit and miss with this in my opinion. In the first few months DS would only sleep on me or if I lied him on his tummy. I know it isn’t recommended due to SIDS and so it was only ever during the daytime for naps and he was always supervised etc. Once he got too big for that he had to be held for nearly all naps until the hot weather started and I had to say enough was enough. Our car seat reclines to the lie flat position so we ended up using this in the first instance and would just have to rock it for short periods etc. White noise also works for us but I know not for everyone. We are now at the point where DS refuses to be held for naps no matter how tired he is and is too big for the car seat he can now push himself out of it. I now lay him in his cot or play mat playing shh noise on my phone and one hand on his tummy to keep him still and then I stroke his head and in between his eyes down his nose if that makes sense. The combination is now normally enough to get him to drift off. Not always though and I have found that a lot of tricks work for a couple of weeks before he works out what I’m doing and we have to change it up! Sorry I don’t feel like I have said much that is useful but maybe work out if you feel it is reflux etc? Or just a sleep issue?

Do you know what’s causing the reflux OP? Have you read up on the possibility of CMPA?

As for handling the symptoms until you sort out the cause, have you raised the head of his crib slightly? As well as the white noise mentioned above, try using a tshirt that DH has worn as the sheet in his crib.

If DH is around this weekend, is he able to take him out for some long walks in the hope that he will nap? I really would work on the naps if you can. I had a colicky, Velcro baby (undiagnosed Tongue Tie) and getting the naps sorted really helped.

My daughter used to be the same, she did eventually grow out of it. She has silent reflux but anti reflux milk has really helped with that, raising her head when she sleeps and during the day we get her to sleep in a chair that I can rock.
