How many bottles when weaning

Hi,

I’m interested to know how well your little ones took bottles once being weaned? My nearly 7 month old is on 3 meals a day, and I offer him a 8 oz bottle every time. Though at the minute he’s only drinking around 4-5 ounces if that. He has 5 bottles a day and still wakes up for one in the night.

I mix formula in with his food if he doesn’t drink much too.

I just worry as I hear some babies still hav their full bottles with 3 meals a day!

20 floz is the absolute minimum he should be having so I wouldn’t look at increasing his solids just yet. Have you tried offering hiscnottles an hour before his meals? It doesn’t matter if he eats little food but it does matter if he doesn’t drink the formula Smile

Have you found the Weaning section on MN yet too?

I usually do his bottle before, and then wait half hour until he has a meal. I think I’m going to track his ounces a day for a couple week a and then decide. I think you just worry way too much about everything, well I know I do haha! Oh no I will have a look at the weaning section! Thank you xx

DD is 9 months but has been having the same bottles for a while now

6ish - 6oz bottle
7ish - breakfast
10.30ish - 6oz bottle
12ish - lunch
2.30ish - 6oz bottle
5ish - dinner
6.30ish - 8oz bottle

Occasional 4oz night feed. Probably a few times a week

My DS who is 3 now, followed a similar pattern, although he had all 8oz bottles and no night feed. DD sometimes drains the bottles dry, but usually leaves an oz or 2

Also my DD is a great eater. That definitely makes a difference. If he’s taking the minimum amount of formula (20oz someone said?) and eating a varied diet then I wouldn’t worry too much. You could make up porridge with formula if you wanted. I also give some yoghurt and cheese for dairy

Yeah he has a good diet bar everything else and is good at eating, I add formula to most of his meals and breakfast too if he doesn’t finish the bottle! Thanks for your reply. It’s good to know what other baby’s have too xx

My DS has just dropped his milk consumption since weaning. He's 7.5 months.

He has a bottle at

5am - bottle
7:30 (when he wakes for the day) breakfast which I make with formula
9:00 - bottle
11:30 - lunch
1 - bottle
4 - bottle
5:30 - dinner
7 - bottle

So he has 4/5 a day. I make up 7oz bottles but I'd say he usually only finishes his bedtime and 5am bottle. The other two he might take 4/5 ozs.

I read they need between 500-600ml a day Which I think is 4 x 5oz bottles. So my DS gets that at least. Definitely think it's wise to use formula in cereal just to help up it.

I think if you track it you'll find he is easily drinking 600ml (20oz) :)

Ah thank you for the response, that sounds similar to DS’s feeding routine. Never usually finishes a full bottle apart from the odd one a day. Xxx
