5 month old rolling

Hi mummy’s,

Looking for advice, I have a 5 month old who can roll to his side and even likes to sleep this way. He has rolled from tummy to back once or twice but that’s it. Should I worry that he is not rolling yet - tummy to back or back to tummy.

Thanks

Honestly I wouldn't worry. For my job I have to know a bit about child development and in my opinion and experience babies develop at different rates- "Norms" doesn't mean should! If he seems delayed in many ways (not just rolling) it might be worth eventually contacting your HV if you want reassuring but for what it's worth my son is nearly 9 months old- some of his friends are crawling/nearly walking already and he only rolls occasionally if he can be bothered to and only started to do this in the last month or so, but I'm not worried at all and nor are the professionals we've spoken to. :)

I wouldn't worry yet, enjoy it - nappy changes get a lot more difficult when they can roll!!

My LO half heartidly tried rolling over for months then suddenly decide last week was the time to do it 😂 they"ll do it when they are ready. My LO always sleeps on her side too

I wouldn’t worry! My son was the exact same, never was interested in rolling onto his tummy. Could just roll to one side. However at about 6ish months he just suddenly did it and now never stops doing it. Even in his sleep which wakes him up all the time!! Every baba is different, I honestly think my DS couldn’t be bothered to do it haha 😂

Thank you ladies, you all have defo put this first time mums mind at ease, I think my lo is just being lazy I am pretty sure he can do it. He is very eager to be standing or sitting....

Mine is exactly the same 😊 I know he can physically roll as I've seen him do it but he chooses not do, he is however very keen to stand up and hates tummy time so I think he'll be one of those who walks but doesn't crawl!

Best thing you can do is go to a baby group specifically for under ones. You'll get to see a really good cross section of hats normal at what age.

I've had one that rolled extremely early, one exactly on schedule and one so late he was about to be referred to physio when he finally got round to moving. All three are lovely fit and healthy teenagers who are exactly the same as their peer groups now. Parenting is just one long, lovely, worry!

Actually the super late roller was a gift as he had a very active slightly older brother and easier nappy changes and one of them staying in the same place was quite welcome at the time. I think I'm quite lazy though Wink.
