Wedding with a 4 month old advise

Hi all.

I'm going to a wedding in a little under a month with my 4 month old. She is exclusively breastfed and I'm a little worried.

We're going to the service and the party. My partner is the best man. The groom has been very nice and arranged for myself and the LO to get ready with the groom's party.

But I'm worried about her being thrown out of her routine for a day. Any tips? Its going to be a lot of stimulus and she gets grumpy when there is too much activity.

Also... what do I wear?! Nursing dresses are so expensive. Any tips there?

I have no tips on what to wear really maybe a wrap top and a nice skirt?
On babys routine don't stress about keeping to it. I went to a full day wedding when my lo was a baby (just about 5months) and found although napped later than normal etc was loving the attention she got and was quite happy. I managed to get a nap in between service and meal then after first dance put down in pram for a sleep (I took a snooze shade to block out people peering in and interacting) where they slept till gone 1am at that point we have a wee look at the disco lights etc said or night nights and went to our room (stayed at the hotel) once there quick feed, change etc and down to sleep and woke again about 8.30am next morning and routine pinged back into place. I admit was worried about the unsettling of routine but ended up just going with the flow on the day and had a great day. Wish I never got worried up about it now 😂

I went to 3 weddings with dd between 10-20 weeks. They were fine although we didn't get through the entirety of any service and I had my boobs out a lot!

I bought a Jersey wrap dress so not too expensive and one that I could wear again.

In terms of routine, I left very shortly after the meals. My dd was quite hard work after 7pm and needed peace and quiet. For two of the weddings we booked hotels nearby so I could leave by myself when I needed to. I also took the pushchair so I could take her for a stroll.

We took DS to a couple of weddings from 4-7 months. Had pushchair and carrier handy, just fed when I needed to and left straight after the meals mostly. I sat near the back or a door for each ceremony for quick exits in case of noise.

Yes, a bit stimulating but really he didn't have much of a routine, or consistent throughout those times so we just got on with it.

I was a bridesmaid when my son was 4 months old. Abandon routine and go with the flow- easier if you’re bf anyway. Get a soft wrap/sling/baby carrier and have a pram handy-ideally where they can lie flat. See if there is a quiet area (ideally cool) that you can leave a stash of soft drinks and retreat as needed. I agree maybe aim to leave after dinner but that’s up to you-see how it goes! eBay is quite a good source of maternity/bf wear. Or try h and m. Otherwise a wrap dress/top.

Routine at 4 months? How do I get one of these?

Seriously, I was a bridesmaid with a 4 month ya old. I wore a multiway dress which was great for feeding but have a look at ASOS or 'can I breastfeed in it Facebook selling page.

The only thing I needed to do with LO was get her off to the room in the vein h as she wasn't sleeping well with all the distractions. Also please please please take her out of the ceremony if you can

Following! Bridesmaid with EBF bottle refusing 4 month old here. Bridesmaid dress completely incompatible with bf. I'm going to get a multiway dress and change after the photos. Will have to hope for the best beforehand!

Following! I'm planning to go to a wedding with a very tiny baby around Christmas time and a bit worried too

I have however just got this from Seraphine- their stuff is usually way too expensive for me but it's reduced to £39 and is actually really nice on. My bump isn't very big yet and it doesn't look too "maternity" ish on so it could be good as a 4 months post-partum nursing dress. It's more purpley than blue in real life

I’ve got a wedding coming up where I’m taking my (what will then be) 4 month old. Great reading everyone’s advice. I planned to go with the flow as lots of you say and was going to try and get baby down in the buggy (which lies flat) at his usual bedtime around 7. Then leave him to sleep in a quiet (ish?!) corner until he wakes up again and then I’ll go up to our room with him. Did anyone use ear defenders? I’m debating them but not sure whether to fork out for them if not really needed.

In terms of a dress, I got a wrap dress from Silk Fred and have breastfed successfully in it before. It wasn’t expensive, I think £45 and there are lots of wrap dresses and tops on their site for a similar price

I also vote for having a sling to hand and wearing something soft and with easy access to the boobs! The first time I went to a wedding with 2 month old, I didn't think about it (baby rain) and it was very tricky! Thankfully small wedding with good friends who didn't care that I was mostly in a state of undress!

Lots of people will want to hold the baby, otherwise having a sling will keep your hands free and give you a break.
