Games Consoles? (Clueless)

My son would really like a games console for his 8th birthday. He adores Lego so the main reason for buying is because he wants to play Lego Dimensions. He has a Nintendo 2DS but we mainly use this for long car journeys. Which do I buy? I want to do this as cheap as possible. My husband and I are not into gaming at all so do not know where to start.

Is it just to play Lego dimensions?

Because the cheapest way is probably to buy a "wii u" console, it's not the latest console, it's the last generation so you'll get a bundle with a couple of games from Ebay, plus the lego dimensions starter pack for about £160.

Games for the Wii U are dropping in price right now too.

Thank you. Yes, at this stage it is just for Lego dimensions. My sister has just offered me her old Wii but I don't think he can play Lego Dimensions on it?

There are other lego games for it though.

JessicaJonesJacket · 15/07/2018 12:07

They're phasing out Lego Dimensions so I wouldn't buy a console solely to play it.

JessicaJonesJacket · 15/07/2018 12:13

I forgot to add the other Lego games are fab and imo better than Dimensions anyway so I'd accept the offer of the old Wii and buy some Lego games for it.

If he really wants Lego dimensions I would probably get him a ps3. I say that as a Nintendo gamer as well. You don’t want want to pay full price for a latest console. But the wii u is a hand held screen as a controller a PlayStation will be more robust. If any Lego game is ok then just go with the wii.

Nice2bnice · 15/07/2018 16:18

Thank you all. You have all just saved me lots of money! I will go for the free Wii and investigate Lego games.
