Off school sick, can we go out?

Hi, sorry if I'm asking something silly but I don't know what the advice is.
My 5 yo is in reception and came home yesterday with temp and very mopey. First time off sick. Didn't really sleep well last night so I kept off school as a precaution but now absolutely fine.
If we go out, I'm just talking to supermarket as we have no food in. Is that ok? Or if someone sees us is that not good?
I see kids out of school all the time so I'm thinking this is probably quiet common but don't want to be doing anything silly. Not sure if it depend on the school and policy.

My unwell DC invariably get taken to the shop briefly, even if just for calpol and something nice to drink to keep their fluid levels up. Totally understand that feeling that you're somehow bunking off though. Hope he's better soon.
