Hi all,
Freaking out right now! I'm not well so my dp got up with baby to give her a bottle this morning! She had around 2oz from it and he's only gone and given her a bottle that has never been washed let alone sterilised! She's 5 months old and I'm really freaking out! Am I overreacting or do I need to be worried!?xx

I wouldn't panic to be honest. My youngest had a few bottles and as long as I had given them a good wash I didn't sterilise them. X

Mabelface · 04/07/2018 07:56

I'm sure she'll be fine.

Deanie30 · 04/07/2018 07:57

These hadn't been washed at all they were brand new! I'm so annoyed with him I literally told him not to touch those bottles until I washed them and sterilised them and the one day he gets up to sort her out he messed up Angry

I think the worst that will happen Is she might have an upset tummy? But if there was no milk residue in them, there is very little risk of this I would think.

My baby is 3 months old and everything and anything is going in her mouth at the moment. They're more resilient than you think!

NoNoCharlieRascal · 04/07/2018 08:00

She'll be fine, don't panic.

SlimmingMumOf1 · 04/07/2018 08:04

Don't worry about it! We've all been there. I've done it once or twice (accidentally). The milk prior to that will have already been sterilised.

AtomicGlitterBomb · 04/07/2018 08:04

She will be absolutely fine, stop panicking.

At five months she will be developing a healthy immune system and will very soon be ready to wean,
Sterilisation is only imperative for newborns due to their lack of immune system.

needtogiveitablow · 04/07/2018 08:05

From 6 months you don’t need to sterilise anyway. She’s 5 months old, not a tiny newborn, at this age they put everything and anything in their mouth - I really think you don’t need to worry. And try not to be too hard on DP or you might find he’s reluctant to help in future if he feels he’s being judged harshly!

SlimmingMumOf1 · 04/07/2018 08:05

I just seen they were brand new... Honestly, you've got nothing to worry about!

Ubercornsdiscoball · 04/07/2018 08:06

She will be fine

ladyflower23 · 04/07/2018 08:11

I would be less worried at new bottles not being washed than ones with milk residue left in. And at 5 months she will have some immunity. I really don't think she will get ill so don't worry.

Phosphorus · 04/07/2018 08:15

She'll be fine.

I've bought bottles and used them straight from the shop in emergencies.

Anditstartsagain · 04/07/2018 08:17

I wouldn't have sterilized new bottles at all at 5 months I stopped all together at 6 months with ds2.

She will be fine. Give your dp a break.

Deanie30 · 04/07/2018 08:17

Thank you all for calming me down! Feel less anxious now!xx

Soon she’ll be licking the Buggy wheels when you’re not looking etc, I’d stop stressing

NanooCov · 04/07/2018 08:33

I had an early crawler that was chewing shoes and licking pretty much everything he could get his hands on at 6 months. Don't worry.

mindutopia · 04/07/2018 12:12

She’ll be fine. We stopped sterilising entirely at 5 months with my first. I just washed everything really well in hitch water. She lived to tell about it. It’s really only very little babies or those that are immuno compromised that it’s a major concern.
