6 month old and routines !

My 6 month old has been having a 8oz bottle at 7 and again 10.

Then has a rusk mixed with formula milk at about 1 o'clock and sometimes a yoghurt afterwards.

Then has another 8oz bottle at 4ish.

He then has a vegetable ouch of some kind and a yoghurt at 6:30

He then has a bottle at 9ish and goes through till 6-7 ish

Is this over feeding? I know health visitors say you can't over feed and I only feed him when he is hungry but just wanted some reassurance!
Thanks in advance 😁

I'm not sure about whether it's too much, but I'm not sure a 6mo should have yoghurt if it's made from cows milk? Also I would only feed the solids earlier in the day so that it has time to be digested, maybe with the 10 and 1 O'clock feeds.

Routine sounds great and it seems like weaning is going really well so far, especially if he’s sleeping well Grin The only thing I’d watch is the sugar intake; rusks are processed/sugary and if the yoghurt is sweetened then he could be consuming quite a lot of sugar. If he likes his veggies for dinner then I’d do similar at lunch instead of the rusk.

So he has 4/5 bottles a day? That seems fine. I think the recommendation is for approx 32 oz of formula a day and then slowly reduce it down as you wean into solids. But all kids are different and they take what they need, assuming no health professionals are concerned about his growth

My DS was on 5 8oz bottles a day at 6 months, although he took to food well so we were able to drop a bottle quite quickly and he was on 4 x 8oz plus food until around 9/10 months when we started to drop the daytime ones for more food

Yoghurt is fine for babies over 6 months

It doesn't sound like over feeding to me, 4x8oz bottles sounds fine. Yogurt is fine for babies over 6 months, although some brands are very sugary, as are rusks. How long have you been weaning?

Hi thanks for all your replies

I've been wearing him since 5 months. He was desperate for food from my plate.

Yeah I was thinking maybe too much sugar. Just not sure what to give for lunch?

Heath visitors aren't worried about his weight. He is a big chap but has been since birth

At 6 months they can have most foods. You could do something like pasta in a sauce made just with chopped tomatoes, my LO loves this. Or porridge with fruit purée? Cauliflower and broccoli cheese? Scrambled egg? You can make a batch of the food, give it a quick whizz in the blender and portion it up into weaning pots and freeze. Then just take a pot out of the freezer and defrost overnight in the fridge. I would think those foods would be more nutritious than rusks and limit the sugar, just mind not to add extra salt or use processed sauces with additives and salt.
