Sudden change in formula fed baby's poop

Since birth my DS has been regular with pooping, and every time we've changed his nappy he's had a small amount in it.

Over the last couple of days however, this has changed. He's now going less frequently and when he does it's loose and MASSIVE. It also smells a lot more sour that I ever recall it smelling. Texture-wise I wouldn't say it's diarrhea, but it's certainly a lot looser than before.

I took him to the doctors this morning, but my GP essentially dismissed me by saying that my DS could merely have a stomach bug and as long as he's not dehydrated then he'll be fine. I, however, am not so sure.

Could this be a milk allergy? Could it be something else? I don't know. He seems fine in himself otherwise. He's 7 week old. Any ideas?

I think I’m with your GP on this one, 2 days is really not long and it really could be a stomach bug.

Usual signs of milk allergy are mucus in poo, swollen tummy, refusal to feed or wanting to feed then screaming when the milk hits their tummy. Crying for hours. Does he usually have any of these symptoms?

Which formula are you using? Paramilitary have recently changed formulation and has takes my 11 week old a week or so to get used to the differences x

Paramilitary ??

APTAMIL 😂

That is one weird typo, and I thought my iPad came up with some weird ones Grin

Have you changed the choice of formula?

Daisy92 · 01/07/2018 05:06

Thanks, everyone. I'm using Cow and Gate, as he's had since week one after realising that I wasn't able to breastfeed. Nothings changed and I'm so meticulous with hygiene practices, so I'm confused. :(

Cow and Gate is made in the same factory as Aptamil so it’s possible they have changed it too.

How is he today?
