Social Media Bullying

Hi all,

Just thought I would see what others think about something in regards to social media and children.

With the rise of snapchat, there are more and more stories out there about young people taking photo's which they later regret as it is easy for screen grabs to capture those photo's and then share them.

I'm wondering whether there is a call for the photo's to be sent to parents first, for them to approve the photo being sent to the recipient before it is sent? Like a parental vetting element?

Anyone else wondered about something like that?

Thanks

What do you mean? Do you mean Snapchat should implement a rule where the pics go to parents first?

They'd NEVER do that as they'd lose their entire audience.

Then someone else would launch a new version but call it something else.

The key is not in trying to disallow apps with these features but in educating children and instilling confidence in them so they don't feel pressure to share pictures like that.

To be honest, if a dc isn't able to understand whether or not a photo is suitable for social media (and the reasons why), or if they can't be trusted to be sensible online, then they probably shouldn't have an account.
