Brushing 1 year olds teeth

I'm a bit concerned as my daughter won't let me brush her teeth properly. She wants to hold the tooth brush and sort of chews on it and cried and shuts her mouth if I try to do it, Any tips on how to keep her pearly whites clean and healthy?

I have the same problem with my 2yo. It's always been like this despite my best efforts. I have tried the in the night garden video with the tombliboos brushing their teeth. It's works on an ad hoc basis. Mostly I lay her down and put her head between my knees. This was recommended to me by someone with lots of experience of teeth brushing of children. She warned me that she might not like it but to persist. Actually she's fine with it and finds it funny - but she was about 19 months when we started doing this, I'm not sure if I'd want to try with a 1yo.

Let her chew, don't rinse, only water after brushing at night - no milk or food, get a varnish coating from the dentist and persevere with the brushing.

You can get brushing songs on you tube. We did silly games like oh no there's a monkey hiding behind your teeth - let's tickle him - but that might work better when older.
