Cord still here 16 days

Hi everyone. I'm worried about the cord because is still here it doesn't fall off and it's already 16 day how my son is born. Yesterday we had appointment with the midwife she checked and she said that it's fine that there is no sign for infection. But still I'm worried today I checked it was like something white under the cord, maybe pussbut there is no redness. While i was in the hospital they bath the baby there and i think the midwife didn't care about the cord she made it wet. Is it possible because of the bath it takes longer for falling off? First i was said it takes up to 14 days but my son cord takes longer

If you are comcerned at all that it is puss, I’d call the MWs straightaway. They might want to check it again Smile

Did your baby have antibiotics after birth? That delays the cord coming off. It happened with my son last year and took 12 days.

Yes the baby was 5 days on antibiotics, probably tomorrow morning I will call the midwife it's better to be checked again otherwise I will be worried more

DD2’s cord took ages to come off, I think it was around 3 weeks. I read somehwere that it can take longer for babies born by CS, don’t know if that was the case for you?

rubyroot · 28/06/2018 21:52

I too was paranoid about this!

My baby too was born by c section- cord took 23 days to come off. It had a white bit underneath that looked sticky, was also there when it came off. It eventually dried up and was fine.

I think it is pretty normal, if it is infected it will smell and likely to be hot and red around the site. You have also been reassured by midwife.

I know exactly how you feel though as I was worried too.

dds never fell off fully was on there for a few weeks then when i took her to the doctors they had a little re stick thing with something that burns it -not painful cant feel it- and i had to take her every 3-4 days, sorry i dont know what its called lol

I had normal delivery it wasn't CS. I wasn't that much worried until today when i saw that white under the cord which make me so worried. Yesterday the midwife checked him and she said it's fine there is no infection it will fall off but it really takes ages 😱 I can't give him even proper bath in this hot weather. Hopefully it's nothing to worried about

As I said mine had loads of white goo.

You are probably worrying over nothing. I also bathed my baby and just dried around the cord

pastabest · 28/06/2018 22:22

It can go a bit gooey looking just before it falls off. DC2s fell off a couple of days ago so the image is fresh in my mind!

jellyandsoup · 28/06/2018 22:27

Why can't you give him a bath? It is fine to bath babies with their cord attached just make sure you dry it afterwards and are not using any products in the water.
