What do you do with your child whilst you shower?

I used a walker but she's getting to big for it & trying to climb out, she's almost 1 & walking if that makes a difference. I know she will scream within 2 minutes if I put her in her cot!

I have to put dd in her cot. She's usually not happy about it but I put some different books and toys in and I'm as quick as possible

Wittow · 28/06/2018 14:43

Well my DD is 9 now so a long time ago for me, but I was a single mum from day 1 so had to cope really. I used to shower with her in the bathroom with me, just put toys/books on floor and talk to her whilst showering! Or I'd do it when she was asleep already.

Haha, love showering alone now!!!

TroubledLichen · 28/06/2018 14:47

It’s a nightmare isn’t it?! I shower whilst DD has her morning nap. Failing that then I would do cot with some toys. Will she watch a cartoon like Peppa Pig? If so position the iPad within viewing distance of the cot. Alternatively shower in the evenings. Unsupervised in a walker doesn’t sound particularly safe especially if she’s trying to escape so I’d definitely stop that.

At that age cot with some toys and if they scream so be it. Alternatively you could try high chair in front of the TV.

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 28/06/2018 14:51

I get up earlier and get showered and dressed before they wake. Then get a bath in the evening when they are in bed.

JohnLapsleyParlabane · 28/06/2018 14:52

I'd usually just take her in with me. Or let her hang out in the bathroom and chat with her while I was in the shower. Now she's 2 she plays in her room and pops in to 'visit' me while I'm showering.

Sorry wasn't clear - not unsupervised in the walker she'd be in the bathroom with me in the walker! Doesn't sound like there's a miracle solution for this one 😂 I may have to start putting her on the floor with toys etc. But I know that'll last 5 mins then she'll be pulling at the shower curtain & playing with the toilet! 🤦🏼‍♀️

Either put on floor with toys and have very quick shower, or (when slightly older) put in cot with CBeebies playing on a laptop!

LoniceraJaponica · 28/06/2018 15:49

I waited until she was asleep at night

SoyDora · 28/06/2018 15:49

Mine are 4 and 2 now so it’s much easier but at that age I just used to get up at 5.30am and shower before they got up!

GinIsIn · 28/06/2018 15:52

I put DS in the high chair in the hall outside the bathroom with some rice cakes and books. I can see him clearly and chat to him from the shower.

legolimb · 28/06/2018 15:55

My son is now 20 so I get to shower alone Wink

However when he was small I set up the travel cot in front of the tv downstairs and used it as a playpen. Very useful for the I needed to cook or other jobs which were easier without a toddler in the way.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 28/06/2018 15:58

My DD used to love her trike so I used to sit her on that, do up the straps and give her a biscuit. I'd park it just outside the door of the bathroom so that she could see me.

Rocinante1 · 28/06/2018 16:03

I've got 2 boys; single from when youngest was 4 weeks so it was a nightmare! Just had to shower when they were asleep or keep them in the room with toys. Eventually changed my sleeping pattern and got up before them to get myself all ready in time for breakfast making!

pastabest · 28/06/2018 16:11

I used to wait until DC1 was asleep if I wanted a leisurely shower (naptimes or night) or I had one whilst she was having breakfast with DP.

Otherwise she came in with me and played with her bathtoys and washed my toes.

I've now got a 17mo and a clingy newborn and all bets are off. I literally jump in the shower for 30 seconds to wash away the smell of stale milk during DC1s morning nap, leaving DC2 in the pushchair downstairs out of mine me DC1s earshot and hope the screaming doesn't get too loud whilst I'm gone.

Fun times

Could you bring a few toys up and let her play in her bedroom or the bathroom? I have a stair gate at the top of our stairs so I let her roam a little with her toys whilst I do things like shower.

I got a happyland dolls house from eBay and it's a toy she is so into it tends to amuse her for ten mins while I shower.

whiningandwining · 28/06/2018 18:07

I used to take my son in the shower with me at that age when I needed to. He liked playing with toys and splashing, I got a slightly longer shower!
Otherwise, I used to get up and shower before he got up.

GruffaloStick · 28/06/2018 18:20

I take my nearly 2 year old in the bathroom with me and bring toys, making sure to lock the bathroom door and keep anything hazardous out of reach.
I do relish the opportunity to shower alone though without a preschool biology lesson. She's become very interested in my body. Boobies!

SoddingUnicorns · 28/06/2018 18:20

Travel cot in the bathroom with toys in? That’s what I used to do.

Racecardriver · 28/06/2018 18:21

Sr that age they just came into the shower with me.

beautifulblue · 28/06/2018 19:31

My bathroom isn't big enough to accommodate a travel cot in I'm afraid... plus I don't have one! Can't imagine lugging her wooden cot in & squeezing round it. 🤣🤣 high chair is a good idea! I am tempted to let her roam in the bedroom (the bathroom is off of the bedroom) but I know I'll be panicky the whole time incase she's managed to climb onto the bed or something! Ahhh we live & learn ladies Smile can't wait for the boobie & hair questions! 🤦🏼‍♀️

I wake up extra early and shower while my 3 DC's are still in bed. It's the only way that works for me!

NotTakenUsername · 28/06/2018 19:34

Would you consider putting her in the shower with you and a few squirty toys?
Dd used to love it - give her a quick wash while you’re at it and it’s two jobs done at once! Wink

MizCracker · 28/06/2018 19:35

My youngest is 3 and I still shower at night when DH is home!
