Help! I'm not sure what to do my DD is grinding her teeth she's got 8 teeth. Dentist is useless just wanting patients to get there teeth witghened didn't seem fussed that she grinds her teeth. Does anyone have experience with this? And tips she does have a dummie only uses it nights or if she's teething and she's being weened off it not sure if it's because of that. It's awful and not good for her teeth just looking for a way to stop it Confused

How long has she been doing it? It's quite normal unfortunately. My ds is 13m and was doing it a lot last week but has stopped now. I'm not sure there is much you can do about it but god it makes me cringe!

Mine did this - I think they all do. It sounds horrible! She won't do it for long, I think it's when they teething

Hi ZebraMammy17.
I'm a Dental Nurse and this is pretty common with children. Unfortunately there's not a lot you can do to stop it and she will more than likely grow out of it. When adults do it it's usually due to stress but little ones do it out of habit. It's more likely to happen if they sleep on their back and it's more common in children that snore or breathe through their mouths.
It's a horrible sound and you can't believe that so much noise can come from those few little teeth.
Try not to worry. It isn't unusual and unless she starts doing it constantly whilst she's awake and asleep it shouldn't cause any problems. If it was to continue as she gets older there is treatment available but she's far too young at the moment.
Hope this has reassured you a bit

Mine did this at about that age too, the noise drove me batty Confused No idea what you can do though but my boy grew out of it, I think for him it was the new sensation of having teeth too and bottom to rub together...
