Dummy weaning.. hand hold

My LO is 5 months, I've posted previously about her wedging it in her mouth. She's done it with both the 0-6 MAM and the 6+. Hmm

If she's not completely drowsy when we put her down she just wants to play with it like a teething toy! And even when she is nearly asleep half the time she rubs her face and finds it, which wakes her up all over again!

Any one else weaned the dummy at this age? I read it's slightly easier at this age than later down the line.
Did you go cold turkey? Or is there a gentle method?

My worry is she sleeps through 7pm-6am, and I really don't want to mess that up!

Any advice really appreciated!

My ds is 5 months and must I say never had a dummy so I can’t advise..

But can I say how jealous I am that ur dd sleeps through the night . Life goals for me!

I also am jealous of the sleeping through. It is probably your child rather than the dummy though. My first had a dummy til about 1, then we visited a friend on a Sunday evening and forgot it. We had nowhere to buy a new one so he just had to do without. The first night was very hard, but we decided not to buy one the next day, and the next night was slightly less hard. After four days he'd forgotten its existence .

Why do you want to wean her off it now? Is it because she is wedging it in her mouth? Is it a danger?

Only one of my dc had a dummy, but he gave it up around 2.5. I don't think I'd mess with it if your dd is sleeping so well with a dummy, unless there are problems with it.

I think op might be worried about teething and stuff starting at this age ?

crumble9 · 24/06/2018 10:45

She's got really upset and cried for 20/30 mins after getting it wedged. I think it hurt her the first time. Didn't the second I don't think.
She now seems to play with it more than anything.
And if she's nearly asleep and discovers it... her hands like that month python sketch!
Even though she's 90% asleep, her hand slowly creeps to it, discovers it, and then is wide awake turning it every way and chewing again.

So I'm nervous of leaving her alone with it, and it's taking longer and longer each night for her to go to sleep.

She has gone to sleep twice out and about on me without, so I'm wondering if she really needs it at all

Oh and yeah! Super lucky she sleeps through so terrified of messing that up!

I'm sure if/when we have another they will have us up every hour 😅
