Car seat question

Hi All.

My daughter is turning 3 next week and weighs 12.7kg.

She's always had a 5 point harness car seat but over the last 3-4 weeks she has been a nightmare getting in. I popped her in a borrowed high back booster seat and she was a dream.

Sat quietly in the back. I'm wondering if she allowed to sit in a high back booster yet at 3 years old?
I know it states 15kg upwards. She just wont sit in a 5 point harness and we have a 3 hour journey in a few weeks which I'm now dreading!

Is anyone else's 3 year old in a high back booster?

You must keep her in a 5 point harness, 12kg is very little and she won't be as safe in high back booster.

Could it be that the car seat needs the straps adjusting?

To use a seat she’s under the minimum weight requirements for is dangerous, even more so for a long journey which presumably involves motorways. Can you not bribe her with snacks, iPad etc. to sit nicely in her seat?

Just noticed she's not even 3 yet. I've only just put my 4.5yo in a high back booster, and that's because he's tall and almost 18kg.

If she hates the harness seat it's likely that she's uncomfortable in it. Try adjusting it, or try her in a different seat and see if that works.
It might just have been the novelty of the new seat that kept her quiet last time.

Not until she is the correct weight or the seatbelt won’t restrain her adequately in an accident(or even just a very sharp stop). My ds1&2 were both over 5 before being heavy enough. My two year old is still rear facing.

It is illegal for her to travel in a high back booster.

She's very very young to be in a HBB and obviously under the weight limit so you do need to find a way to keep her in a harnessed seat. Check her seat doesn't have anything making her uncomfortable (sharp bits etc) and then it will have to be snacks, toys, iPad etc. If you are concerned, you could look into a new seat if you think it'll be more comfortable but it will need to be a harnessed seat (RF is also still safer).
