Suncream!

Ok, so after looking at the weather for next week (really f"ing hot!) I'm wondering about the baby.
My DD is 15 weeks old. The pharmacist said she couldn't use the baby suncream. Some websites say it's ok. Its factor 50, extra sensitive baby suncream, but says for baby's 6 months+.
We have a few days out planned next week on days it's supposed to be super hot. I'll cover her and protect her from the sun as best as I can, but surely a small bit of suncream won't do her any harm, just to be safe?? What's your opinions on this? Is she really too young??

I've been using Garnier Ambre Solaire Baby in the Shade Sun Cream for my DD since she was about 3 months old (she's currently 6 months) I used it in Portugal and at home and it's worked perfectly! 👍🏼

Plus, even though it's "technically" for babies over 6 months, I think it's safer using it than using none at all!

And as long as your DD isn't in direct sun, she'll be absolutely fine! So go out and enjoy the sunshine!

My mid wife said you could use it from 3 months. But to try and keep them in the shade, which obviously we all do anyway.

You could always do a little patch test on baby before hand to make sure it doesn't irritate their skin.

You should be fine with extra sensitive baby etc.

Just don't put it on her hands if she puts them in her mouth. (made that mistake with ds and did not enjoy cleaning up the consequences! Very runny tummy)

Can you get a long swimsuit that offers UV protection at that age?
Personally I'd look at clothing, covers etc before sunscreen.
Is you baby esp susceptible to sunburn (due to their skin tone, hair colour), is that why you are worried?

No I'm not worried about her skin tone and things. But I want to dress her in dresses and shorts etc, in the especially hot weather so she's cool, so I'd rather put a little bit of cream on her exposed skin just incase I can't avoid the direct sunlight sometimes. I just don't understand why you can't put it in them before 6 months, that's all.

The swimsuits that nosy mentioned are very light and cool - boots have a good selection

I trust Is Roche Posay. They have a baby and also a child version. I use the 50+spf (adult) and it is fantastic. I have very sensitive skin (eye area can crack and bleed) but can put this even on my eye area. Also long sleeved light soft cotton top/trousers plus shade (obvs)?

I put a bit of factor 50 on mine , made sure they wore a hat and kept them in shade lots .

I used boots soltan for babies from 12 weeks - we had a foreign trip to a very hot country to visit relatives.

I put a tiny bit on a small patch of skin first to check for reactions. Then only on exposed skin once I knew it was ok. A little won't hurt at all. I was the same - worried dc would burn even in the shade, under a parasol 🙈

My LO is 5 months and i always use a bit of suncream when we have been out and about in sunny days. Its impossible to keep them fully in the shade and think suncream is better than no protection

I never used suncream on babies. I just kept them in shade. That's the best way to keep them cool too. A brief glimpse of sun every now and again not only won't hurt them, it is needed for Vit D synthesis.

And in the summer the sun is just as strong at 20 degrees as it is at 28. The temperature doesn't affect how strong the suns rays are.

I would just stick a tiny bit of baby suncream on their exposed bits and try and keep them in the shade as much as poss. It's really unlikely that they will have a reaction or anything, do a patch test first if you are worried.

My daughter was born May last year and I didn't use suncream at all last summer. Just keep them shaded and put them in long sleeves and trousers in a cool material.
