Teething gel

First time parent and first time poster! Our four month old has been showing signs of teething and at the suggestion of the health visitor I tried some teething gel (anbesol) for the first time. I then saw online that some teething gels can cause an allergic reaction - though this is very rare. Baby has fallen asleep almost straight away after applying it but I wish I hadn’t applied at night for the first time. Would any reaction be almost instant or do I need to watch over him? He pulled a funny face and coughed a bit when I applied it but I assume that’s due to the very unusual taste and sensation.

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I'm sure they'll be fine Smile my 3 month old already has 2 teeth and we have tried anbesol liquid, dentinox and the teething powders, all without a reaction from him. Good luck!!

A serious allergic reaction would usually happen very quickly, possibly involving a rash, swelling and difficulty breathing. It is going to be an extremely rare occurrence so you don't need to sit up and watch him.

Thank you for replying. I am reassured he’s fine. I’m very sleep deprived at the moment so am a bit more sensitive and anxious than normal - and was surprised he fell asleep so easily because that’s not been the case recently.
